So many movies so little time. Top 5 movies I hope to see by the end of December! Oh boy, I'm so behind.
1. Next Goal Wins - November 17th, 2023
A movie based on true story about an American Samoan soccer team and their lack of soccer skills. I haven't watched the documentary of the same name, but from what I can tell their chances of being a classic underdog team that takes home the big trophy is not an outcome in their favor. Directed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnorok). The movie is still in theaters. (P.S. As much as I want to see this movie, I'm probably going to wait until it's available on streaming or something.)
2. Saltburn - November 22nd, 2023
One of my absolute favorite writers and directors Emerald Fennell created a beautiful story about a student from a lower-middle class family who befriends a wealthy student who invites him to his family's estate. As of this posting, I am scheduled to see this movie this weekend and if its anything like Fennell's work on Killing Eve and Promising Young Woman it won't disappoint.
3. Wish - November 22nd, 2023
Full disclosure if I wasn't traveling during Thanksgiving weekend, I probably would've snuck out the movies a few times. Wish (which I hope to see next weekend) is about a tyrannical king who grants wishes to those he deems worthy (or in his words those whose wishes are good for the kingdom). Until one day a local village girl finds a shooting star (it's a Disney movie and it's a physical adorable little star) and grants wishes without caveats much to the king's annoyance. As of this posting Wish is still in theaters and I predict it will be in theaters for a while which is why I'm more concerned with seeing my earlier listed movie first.
4. Wonka - December 15th, 2023
This is a complicated movie because we should all remember Willy Wonka as the suave man from the 1970s aka Gene Wilder because he is the only one to spark joy out of adults and children alike. But who better to play a curly-haired young idealist like Timothy Chalamet. From the trailers you can tell he has the charisma of someone who thinks outside the box and even though we probably won't have the same fun numbers from the original movies, it will be wonderful to see how the man, the myth, the legend became the amazing Mr. Willy Wonka.
5. The Iron Claw - December 22nd, 2023
What brings holiday joy more than a family struck by a 'curse.' The Iron Claw chonicles the lives of the Von Erich brothers and the dynasty that the family built in pro-wrestling in the 1980s. But every coin has two sides and the family is met with great tragedy. Stars: Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Lily James.
I won't be able to write any of these movies as this time of year is pretty busy with different movies and shows being released every day. But I hope you take the opportunity to check out some of these movies. Enjoy!
