Well, they're back!
Our five (sorry, four living and one deceased) favorite pop stars are back for season 2 of Girls5eva. For those who are new to the series, here is a brief overview of the plot.
Plot Summary
The show follows the lives of four (previously five) women who used to be in a girl band called Girls5eva from the early 2000s. There is Busy Philipps' character named Summer, she has a child and is married to a former member of a boy band. Paula Pell plays Gloria, who is divorced and working as a dentist. Sara Bareilles plays Dawn, who is also a mother and wife and works at her brother's restaurant. Renée Elise Goldsberry plays Wickie, she is probably most notable member of the group because of her seemingly lavish lifestyle. The fifth member, Ashley, died before in between the breaking up of the band and the present day in a very comedic and tragic way.
The main plot is that these four women reunite when a part of their most popular song is integrated into a new rapper's song and they are asked to perform live with him. After the performance, our four leading ladies have an amazing idea: 'let's get the band back together!'
The show addresses issues such as what it meant to be a female pop star in the early 2000s, dealing with sleazy managers, and juggling relationships with fame. The show uses these harder topics and addresses them in funny ways, like with comedic songs. For example, in an episode where Dawn's character is nervous about her son not having an friends his own age and only being friends with the grown adults around him (not as creepy as it sounds), as an audience member you understand her concern through a song called 'New York Lonely Boy.'
The show makes fun of the music industry and its evolution by being loud and fun. With every episode you want the band to make it big again while also maintaining their relationships and personalities.
