It is incredibly difficult for a new (or newer) series around this time of year. Networks or streamers (mostly networks) go through their canon of television content and decide, based on ratings, what should stay and what should go. The following are a few examples of shows that are either continuing into their second or third season and other shows that weren't so lucky.
American Auto - RENEWED
American Auto is one of those shows that received a lot of critical acclaim, but took a minute for the network (NBC) to decide if they were going to continue with the show. This is a show that was allowed to continue its story. It is a workplace-comedy about a car company whose higher-ups have to deal with the new CEO whose only experience as a CEO is of a pharmaceutical company. In each episode, the characters have a new hurdle to jump through with their new leader. Hurdles like scandals, press conferences, commercials, etc.
Kevin Can F**k Himself - CANCELLED
This AMC dark comedy will be cancelled after it's second season, which doesn't have a premiere date yet. The series centers around a woman in her unhappy marriage to her idiot husband. The series flips between a typical sitcom (like The King of Queens) to a darker, more depressing world where everything is in the wife's perspective. Every time the husband, Kevin, is in the room the laugh track starts but whenever he leaves his wife is left to deal with his stupidity.
Physical - RENEWED
Forget Jane Fonda, there's a new workout guru in town and her name is Sheila Rubin. In Physical, Sheila is watching her husband have the life he's always wanted while she is stuck in the background as his quiet, submissive wife and mother to their daughter. However, when she walks into a mall Jazzercise class her world changes and she becomes addicted to a new lifestyle that will affect her relationships and everything about herself. The show is on AppleTV+ and will be having its season 2 premiere on June 3rd.
Pivoting - CANCELLED
Pivoting revolves around three women who find different ways to cope with the loss of their best friend, Colleen. One woman, Amy, devotes herself to becoming a better mother to her two children. Another woman, Sarah, quits her job as a surgeon to work as a grocery store cashier. And the third woman, Jodie, pushes herself to workout more and become more adventurous. Each woman finds her voice throughout their journey and develops their relationships with those closest to them and with themselves.
Welcome to Flatch - RENEWED
Welcome to Flatch, takes place in . . . well . . . Flatch. A (fake) documentary crew gets to know the residents of the small town. People like the Pastor, the journalist, two best-friends/cousins, the cousins' nemeses, etc. Viewers get to see how the residents live their daily lives, their festivals, their problems, their rivals.
